So where have I been eh? No blog post for over a year and radio silence as to why. Well its because a lot has changed, namely my employment. I have been so wrapped up in the short form media of Instagram and Facebook I simple haven’t given myself the time to sit down and write. But thanks to flights and airplane mode I am all yours. So where do I begin?
Well firstly, I am now a full time employee of The Running Channel. Told you a lot has changed. It happened completely out of the blue, a few emails and chats and the next thing I knew I was running to Paris as an employee of The Running Channel. That was 15 months ago. Yeah I have been bad with keeping you updated.
For those of you who don’t know what The Running Channel is let’s break it down. They are a YouTube channel and community aimed at helping runners improve, regardless of what the word improve means to you. We take on amazing (and sometimes ridiculous) challenges, talk you through the latest tech and how to use it, review gear, run you through techniques that could help you in your training and anything else under the umbrella of running. We have an incredible and passionate community across socials and now more and more through in person events too. But anyway I digress…
When I first started documenting my running journey on here way way back in 2015 I had a dream that one day this could actually be my job. It was a dream I would whisper quietly under my breath for fear of sounding ridiculous. Why would someone like me; an overweight, back of the pack plodder ever have a job in running. But fast forward 7 years and now it is and honestly it is everything I hoped it would be. I get to talk about running; geek out on gear, chat about races and runs, shout about the power it has to change your life and GET PAID FOR IT. Sorry if you can’t tell I am still over the moon for this change.
So how will things change on here? Well expect more videos of adventures and races to go along with written blog posts. I will be posting the backlog of the best videos I have done with The Running Channel since starting. They’ll also be no more sponsored content appearing on here, which is the same on my socials. There will still be the odd shoe and gear reviews, or links to the ones I write on The Running Channel website, but they won’t come with strings attached but as all my reviews are as open and honest as possible not much will change with that. But the main change I hope you’ll see is regular posting on here. I met up with Eric recently, who helped build this incredible new site, and he made a joke that we spent all this time getting the website looking gorgeous and then I stopped posting but NO MORE.
So while my job may be video and short form media, I am back to the long form written blog. Retro is cool again right?
I want to keep writing on here as long as my legs can keep running because maybe one day someone at the start of their journey will read this and think; yeah I’d like to a life like that and this will all be worth it.
Always forward, forward always. Until next time 👋
