You’ve received that coveted ‘you’re in’ magazine for the London Marathon this week, now what...?
This weekend has been a scorcher in the UK. We Brits can’t cope with heat to put it lightly. Regardless of that and the fact that only a week before I had run 65k in 24 hours, I had signed […]
The Marathon is 26.2 miles. Each mile has turning points that can stop your race or define it. It is a collection of thousands of people striving; to finish, to break a record or to best themselves. It has taken me some time to gather my thoughts together following the London Marathon, all down to what happened after mile 21. A turning point that would change how I view running.
We spend so much of our lives doubting ourselves. We doubt that we can, that we could or that we even should. We doubt careers, loved ones and life directions. We doubt the large and the small; from moving house to what food to eat. It’s the lives we lead nowadays, we cannot take a leap of faith in a world that hinders self belief.
Two weekends on the bounce I ran races. The Athens Marathon followed by the Conwy Half Marathon. This meant that not only was I incredibly knackered and wobbly after that week but also it gave me the idea of comparing my experiences with running 13.1 vs 26.2. It also lets me off the hook for not writing a post of each of the runs!
I was once told, when I was living in India, that the key to life is when you are forced to take a step back it is only so you can appeciate how far you have already come. The day after Cheltenham Half Marathon I was forced, unwillingly, to try and apprecaite how far I have come. 49 minutes to be exact.
How do I get up every week and clock up more and more foot to pavement time? How did someone who used to only run to get away from exercise end up running marathons? How through rain, snow and hangovers I have kept going?
